Once you have accepted an internship, the Haile College of Business allows you the option to earn academic credit for your work experience. All internship courses require departmental permission. The process:

4 Credit Hours - 400 hours worked during the semester
5 Credit Hours - 500 hours worked during the semester
6 Credit Hours - 600 hours worked during the semester

Example response: I will actively seek feedback from peers, mentors, and supervisors on my communication style. Constructive criticism will be invaluable in refining my communication skills and tailoring them to the specific requirements of accounting tasks.
2. Develop better teamwork skills through managing Accounting functions such as .... [describe two or three job responsibilities briefly]
How do you plan to accomplish this objective?
Example response: I plan to accomplish this objective by understanding the team's common goal, building relationships within and outside the team, and going out of my comfort zone to develop my teamwork skills. When managing accounting functions, I will ask coworkers, other interns, and supervisors thoughtful questions. I will work on collaborative accounting projects that require input from multiple team members and foster a sense of shared responsibility and ensure I understand my role within the project.
How, when, and by whom will this objective be evaluated?
Example response: My supervisor will assess my teamwork abilities both on a monthly basis and at the conclusion of the internship. The evaluation will focus on my communication proficiency within the team and the extent of my contributions to the overall team effort throughout the internship period.
3. Formulate better critical thinking skills through working with my Accounting team to solve problems.
How do you plan to accomplish this objective?
Example response: I will actively engage in collaborative problem-solving sessions with my accounting team. By working together on real-world accounting challenges, I aim to enhance my critical thinking skills through diverse perspectives and insights. I plan to stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in accounting. Continuous learning will not only deepen my knowledge but also expose me to new perspectives, contributing to improved critical thinking.

Example response: My supervisor and coworkers will evaluate my critical thinking skills throughout the internship and at the end in my final review. This will be evaluated based on how I problem-solve, my ability to analyze data, and the effectiveness of my decision-making.
4. Build initiative skills by finding appropriate resources to assist with accomplishing Accounting tasks and responsibilities.
How do you plan to accomplish this objective?
Example response: Building initiative skills involves collaboration. I will actively engage with colleagues, exchanging ideas and resources. This collaborative approach can lead to shared knowledge and enhance our collective ability to accomplish accounting tasks. I also plan to develop a personalized learning plan that will involve identifying areas for improvement in accounting tasks and seeking out targeted resources to address these gaps. This structured approach will contribute to building my initiative skills.

How do you plan to accomplish this objective?
Example response: I will demonstrate the application of knowledge appropriate to the Construction Management discipline by seeking to understand the project scope and objectives. This includes understanding the project scope and demonstrating understanding of project requirement and expectations. I will also seek to identify potential risks associated with pre-construction activities and understand effective mitigation strategies. I will also demonstrate an understanding of risk management principles and their application in the context of construction projects. I will also participate in the bid process, including the preparation of bid documents and coordination with subcontractors and suppliers and gain experience in evaluating vendor proposals, negotiating contracts, and selecting appropriate subcontractors.

Example response: My supervisor will assess my ability to identify and solve problems that arise during pre-construction activities and evaluate my decision-making process and rationale behind the choices I made. My supervisor will provide regular feedback regarding my performance. This feedback might include my strengths, areas for improvement, and overall progress. I will also be evaluated on my ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world situations.
How do you plan to accomplish this objective?
Example response: I will build initiative skills by identifying and recognizing various resources relevant to Construction Management tasks, including industry publications, online databases, and professional networks. I plan to demonstrate my proficiency in conducting research by finding relevant and up-to-date information related to construction management practices, regulations, and emerging trends. I plan to proactively seek collaboration with my colleagues and professionals from related disciplines, fostering an understanding of the construction process and its many components.

Example response: This will be evaluated by assessing my ability to apply resource-finding skills in the context of specific projects during project reviews, milestone assessments, or upon project completion.
