May 17, 2022 - Dr. Dekuwmini Mornah, assistant professor in entrepreneurship in 无码专区鈥檚 Haile College of Business, has been awarded a fellowship by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program to travel to Ghana to work with Academic City University College (ACity). Mornah will work on collaborative curriculum development in entrepreneurship with ACity faculty to develop joint projects, courses, and a study abroad program between the two institutions.

鈥淭his fellowship provides an incredible opportunity for our students to deepen their cross-cultural learning in an experiential setting,鈥 said Dr. Hassan HassabElnaby, dean of the Haile College of Business. 鈥淎nd I can鈥檛 imagine anyone more suited than Dr. Mornah to spearhead the creation of this collaborative cross-cultural entrepreneurship program.鈥

Mornah, a native of Ghana who settled in the United States after earning his doctorate at the University of Mississippi, is passionate about African business and entrepreneurship. He founded the Saharan Economic and Financial Consortium, which matches interested investors with opportunities in Africa, has previously developed courses on the subject during his time with Virginia Military Institute and is currently working on an African business and entrepreneurship speaker series, which will expose American businesses and investors to the excellent opportunities in Africa.

Mornah will travel to Accra, Ghana, next summer to work directly with ACity faculty as they develop innovative and appropriate entrepreneurship activities that benefit all parties.

The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program, now in its sixth year, is a fellowship program for African institutions in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda to host an African-born scholar to work on projects in research collaboration, graduate student teaching/mentoring and curriculum co-development. It is funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and managed by the Institute of International Education in collaboration with United States International University-Africa in Nairobi, Kenya. To date, a total of 527 African Diaspora Fellowships have been awarded to scholars to travel to Africa since the program鈥檚 inception in 2013.

This will be Mornah鈥檚 second fellowship through the program. He previously completed one in 2017 through the Virginia Military Institute, where he taught courses in economics and entrepreneurial thinking. Mornah joined the Haile College of Business as an assistant professor in entrepreneurship in 2020.
